With the increasing emphasis on the recycling and reuse of waste plastics and the growing scarcity of timber resources, wood flour or other natural plant fibers are used to fill plastic recycled materials. The plastic-wood materials and finished products made by specialized equipment have emerged in recent years due to their dual characteristics of both plastic and wood, and have gradually become a hot topic of attention and development for countries around the world.

However, after several years of development, the production and application of wood-plastic composites (WPC) in China have not been optimistic. On the one hand, it is difficult to industrialize research results, and on the other hand, the sales of WPC production companies are not smooth. Why is it that this promising new eco-friendly material, WPC, has a situation where it is well-received but not widely used?

Through several years of development and use, it has been found that the processing of wood-plastic materials is more difficult and demanding than that of general plastic products. Currently, most domestic skills are derived from the digestion and absorption of foreign technical information. Although certain achievements have been made, there is still much work to be done for industrial application.

Some production companies only see the prospects of replacing wood with plastic, ignoring other issues. Their processing equipment and technical skills do not meet the requirements, and the product quality cannot be improved. A small number of companies produce molded and limited wood-plastic packaging materials, but due to the small proportion of wood filler, the cost is high and the products lack market competitiveness. Therefore, with the expansion of application fields, how to further improve the performance of wood-plastic materials has become a key point for researchers to develop. The improvement of wood-plastic material production technology, the development of specialized equipment, and the selection of additives also require further research.
